No matter where you are in the world, better skills mean better jobs, and better jobs mean better livelihoods.

Our Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) product helps ensure equal access for all women and men to affordable and quality skills training. Our goal is to substantially increase the number of youth and adults who have relevant skills for employment and entrepreneurship.

We make it our business to lead sustainable initiatives focused on workforce development. LearnSphere acts as the lead partner responsible for project management, client interface and institutional capacity building. To round out our offer, we team up with accredited Canadian colleges who provide content expertise related to the trades, dependable accreditation processes and the development and adaptation of programs that align to local labour market needs.

We have built a TVET system that responds to the needs of workers and learners by using innovations such as distance/online learning, blended learning, programs that focus on trade-based skills and/or essential skills, and teaching methods that value work and life skills and experience. Flexible, adaptable and client-centered, this approach can have immediate application even in complex and fragmented TVET contexts around the world.

Cameroon Project 1

Soutien à l’acquisition des technologies de l’information et de la communication (SACTIC)

The Ask: Build capacity in the IT sector in Cameroon by helping establish a private-sector training school.

Result: Don’t just help set up the school; train the trainers and admin staff, set up an employment and entrepreneurship centre, and expand enrolment from 30 students per year to over 2,000 by the end of the project. Better yet, the school has doubled its capacity since that time and is still growing. The definition of sustainable development.

LearnSphere, in partnership with the Collège communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick - Campus de Dieppe (CCNB Dieppe), successfully helped to build capacity in the IT sector in Cameroon through the establishment of a private sector training school that now offers CCNB-sanctioned two-year diplomas in three areas of specialty: Webmaster-multimedia, Programming for the Internet, and Networking. Our partner organization, Institut universitaire de la côte (formerly ISTDI), founded by Mr. Paul GUIMEZAP, is now recognized within Cameroon and West Africa as the lead training institution in IT. The centre now has over 4000 students enrolled per year, coming from all over Cameroon as well as neighbouring countries.

Cameroon Project 2

Formation professionnelle en technologies de l’information et de la communication (FPTIC)

The Ask: Following on the success of the 1st project, help develop a second IT-related training institution to improve employment opportunities for Cameroonian youth.

Result: At the end of this 5-year project, our partner organization was operating as a sustainable training and employment centre offering technical and vocational training in IT, woodworking, metalworking, sewing/tailoring and bookkeeping. Every student also had a chance at an internship.

LearnSphere was retained by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) to take on this 5-year, $5 million project based in Yaoundé, Cameroon. On budget and within the appointed time-frame, LearnSphere, together with its local partner the Don Bosco Vocational Training Centre, worked to strengthen the Centre’s capacity to meet the human resource development needs of the Cameroonian information technology sector and to ensure its long-term viability. LearnSphere also worked jointly with the Cameroonian government to develop training standards to be applied nationally to across all IT technical and vocational training centres.
